As expected, Hanley Ramirez rode the pine for today’s businessman’s special against the Diamondbacks (query: do they call weekday games “businessmen specials” anymore?). Didn’t bother the Marlins much, as Josh Johnson was dominant, allowing only two hits in seven innings, and Ramirez’s replacement Brian Barden went 1 for 3 with a two-run single, turned a double play, committed no errors and, by all accounts, did not once refuse to hustle during the Marlins’ 8-0 win.
For the Diamondbacks, new reliever Saul Rivera gave up five runs on four hits with two walks in a single inning’s work. The Dbacks traded “cash considerations” to the Indians for Rivera yesterday. If I were them I’d reconsider how much cash is heading to Cleveland.
If they really wanted an Indians’ minor league pitcher they should have gone for Mike Gosling.
