Rangers activate Shin-Soo Choo from the disabled list

The Rangers have activated outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the 15-day disabled list in time for Monday night’s game in Oakland against the Athletics, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Choo is leading off and playing right field. Outfielder Jared Hoying has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to clear roster space.

Choo was put back on the disabled list about a month ago due to a strained hamstring. He had been sidelined with a calf injury, but suffered the hamstring injury in his first game back on May 20.

Choo enters play Monday batting .188/.458/.188 in 24 plate appearances. He turns 34 years old in exactly one month. The veteran will have four years and $82 million remaining on his contract after the season.
