Huge news out of Boston: manager John Farrell just announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 1 lymphoma and that he will begin chemotherapy next week. He said that bench coach Torey Lovullo will manage the rest of the season.

Farrell, the Red Sox manager since 2013, was out the other day for hernia surgery. He said that the cancer was detected during the course of that procedure.

Best wishes to Farrell and his family. Who, unfortunately, have been through this before, as Farrell’s son Luke battled and defeated cancer while in high school.
