Super agent Scott Boras told reporters, including FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi, on Wednesday at the GM Meetings that his client Stephen Strasburg underwent a minor surgical procedure last month to remove a non-cancerous growth from his back.
Mark Zuckerman of CSNMidAtlantic.com wonders whether the growth might have been the source of the on-and-off neck and back pain that Strasburg had to deal with throughout the 2015 season.
Strasburg had a very inconsistent year for the underwhelming Nationals, posting a 5.16 ERA in the first half and a 1.90 ERA in the second half for a 3.46 ERA overall.
The 27-year-old right-hander is a good bet for a bounceback 2016.
He can hit free agency next winter.
