The Yankees and Twins are still playing at Yankee Stadium, but it’s been the Greg Bird show already.
Bird, the Yankees’ 22-year-old first baseman, hit his first career homer in the fourth inning. It was a two-run shot, knocking in Carlos Beltran, to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Then, in the sixth, after the Yankees fell behind 3-2, Bird homered in Beltran once again. Here’s a link to the first one. Here’s the second one:

Bird has played in five games in the majors and is 6-for-17 with three extra base hits. But even with such a short resume, the Bird is the word among Yankees fans already.
Oh, and then there’s this:Bird comes up to Phil Collins’ “Something Happened on the Way to Heaven.” Odd choice for a 22-year-old, but I like it.
