The Mets were reported to have pursued Grant Balfour before he signed with the Rays and now they are reported to be talking to Fernando Rodney. Adam Rubin of ESPNNY has the report.

This further suggests discomfort with handing the closer’s role to Bobby Parnell. Which makes one wonder why they let LaTroy Hawkins walk away. But hey, that’s ancient history now.

Rodney spent the past two seasons as the Rays’ closer. In that time he’s saved 85 games with a 1.91 ERA with 158 strikeouts in 141.1 innings against 51 walks.
