Oversized mascot-ish George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft already race at Nationals park. Now they’ve added another: Calvin Coolidge:
The White House Historical Association’s annual Christmas ornament this year is dedicated to Calvin Coolidge, among the presidents most closely associated with baseball. This led to the inclusion of a baseball on the ornament design, which in turn led the association to propose a formal partnership with the local nine.
And that partnership includes Coolidge running around the Nationals Park warning track with the rest of them.
Best thing about him racing is that, if he wins, he won’t crow about it. And that, if he ends up winning a lot and looking unbeatable, he may very well choose not to run again, thereby giving someone else a chance.
