Right-hander Trevor Cahill, who opted out of a minor-league deal with the Dodgers last week to become a free agent, has agreed to another minor-league deal with the Cubs.
Cahill is now on his fourth team this year--he was also traded by the Diamondbacks and released by the Braves--and hasn’t had success in the majors since 2013. He also struggled at Triple-A for the Dodgers, posting a 6.28 ERA and 17/14 K/BB ratio in 29 innings.
He’s still just 27 years old and the former All-Star is still getting paid by the Diamondbacks as part of a $30 million contract extension gone bad, but Cahill looks like mostly organizational depth at this point.
