Some very, very sad news from the San Diego Padres family over the weekend: Yuliette Solarte, the wife of Padres infielder Yangervis Solarte, died due to complications from cancer. She was only 31.

Yangervis Solarte left the team on Friday to be with his wife and their three daughters in Florida. On Saturday night he announced Yuliette’s death on his Instagram account and then thanked his fans and supporters on Twitter:

Loosely, he thanked everyone for their support and said he had no words to describe what this year has been like. He said that God knows why He does what He does and that he knows that things will get better.

Solarte is still with his family, but Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune says that he wants to bring his kids to San Diego and rejoin the team before the season is over. It’d be understandable if he didn’t even if it’s understandable why he wants to.

So sad for Solarte and his family. Keep a good thought or a prayer for them.
