Yankees rule out Michael Pineda until at least September

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman revealed that right-hander Michael Pineda will be out until at least September with the strained forearm that sent him to the disabled list last week.

Pineda has a lengthy history of arm problems, including spending all of 2012 and 2013 on the sidelines, so the Yankees are no doubt going to be conservative with his recovery timetable.

He got off to a great start this season, but Pineda has mostly struggled dating back to mid-May and has a 3.97 ERA in 19 starts overall. He logged 76 innings for the Yankees last season and that’s the extent of his big-league action since starting 28 games for the Mariners as a rookie in 2011.

Luis Severino’s stay in the rotation could be a long one.
