Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada will make his minor league debut with Single-A Greenville, ESPN Boston’s Gordon Edes reports. The Red Sox committed $63 million to sign the 19-year-old Cuban in February (officially announced in March), $31.5 million of which is a 100 percent penalty for exceeding the international spending limit.
Moncada would have opened the season with Greenville, but injured his shoulder sliding into second base so he has been in extended spring training as a result. Moncada hasn’t played in competitive baseball since December 2013, when he left Cuba.
