Oneli Perez was perfect for 1 1/3 innings to earn a save in his debut for Licey of the DWL.
Perez had a 2.10 ERA and 16 saves in 77 innings in Double-A this year. The White Sox, though, never gave him an opportunity, possibly because of how much Dewon Day struggled when he was promoted to the majors from Birmingham. With better command than Day, he appears to have a future as a setup man. However, he is likely to have problems with the home run ball.

Indians claimed RHP Oneli Perez off waivers from the White Sox.
A pretty good pickup for Cleveland. The White Sox were never high on Perez, and they were quick to take him off the 40-man roster after he opened this season with a 9.53 ERA at Triple-A Charlotte. The soon-to-be 25-year-old isn’t known for his conditioning and doesn’t have closer-type potential, but he might turn into a useful reliever. He had a 2.10 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 77 innings for Double-A Birmingham last season. The Indians will put him in Triple-A.

Yankees designated RHP Oneli Perez for assignment.
The Bombers will be the third team to try to slide Perez through waivers this year. The Indians claimed him from the White Sox, and the Yankees picked him up just 10 days ago from Cleveland.

Indians designated RHP Oneli Perez for assignment.
Perez was claimed off waivers from the White Sox last month and had a strong minor league track record prior to this season, but posted a 7.11 ERA in seven appearances for the Indians’ Triple-A affiliate.

Yankees claimed RHP Oneli Perez off waivers from the Indians and optioned him to Double-A Trenton.
Perez had a nice track record as a minor league reliever entering 2008, but he’s struggled in Triple-A for both the White Sox and Indians this season. The Yankees have no shortage of better relief prospects.
