Troncoso

Troncoso allowed eight hits and three earned runs in five innings this spring. The 29-year-old right-hander was on the outside looking in for a bullpen spot anyway.

Troncoso was designated for assignment last Thursday. Lit up in Cactus League play, Troncoso could still eventually be summoned to the big leagues after spending part of each of the past four seasons in Los Angeles’ bullpen.

The 29-year-old right-hander spent the entire 2012 season toiling at Triple-A Alberquerque, compiling a horrifying 6.67 ERA and 1.74 WHIP over 59 1/3 innings of work. He owns a career 3.92 ERA over 197 1/3 major league innings, and could be worth a gamble for teams starved for bullpen depth.

He’ll presumably be given an invitation to spring training. Troncoso spent all of 2012 at Triple-A with the Dodgers, posting an ugly 6.67 ERA over 45 appearances.

Troncoso signed a minor league contract with the White Sox this past offseason and had a cool 2.19 ERA through 24 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level. The 30-year-old right-hander should do well in a middle relief role.

Troncoso put up a 4.50 ERA over 29 appearances for the White Sox this season while missing time with a chest issue. The 30-year-old will have to settle for a minor league deal this winter.

Tronsoco has been out since mid-August due to pericarditis. He’ll return to a middle relief role.

Troncoso has already thrown a pair of bullpen sessions and now wants to face live hitters. He has been on the disabled list since August 17 with chest pains. The right-hander should be back by mid-September.

Troncoso was placed on the disabled list Saturday without immediate explanation as to his injury. Turns out the hurler has been diagnosed with pericarditis, which means that the membrane enclosing his heart has become inflamed. Troncoso suffered from similar symptoms a few years ago. Chicago has not yet released a timetable for Troncoso’s (5.25 ERA in 25 appearances) return.
