At one point the right-hander was considered among the best relief prospects in baseball, but he’s struggled to stay healthy for both the Astros and briefly the Marlins. More information on Ferrell’s status should come out after the visit in Houston.

    Ferrell just finished up a short stay at Double-A Jacksonville, during which he threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings across two relief appearances. The 25-year-old Rule 5 Draft pick should be an option for the Marlins’ bullpen around the end of May or the early part of June.

    The plan is for him to pitch an inning Thursday night. Ferrell has been on the shelf with biceps tendinitis since late March and won’t be eligible to come off the injured list until the end of the month.

    Ferrell tossed 1 2/3 innings in an extended spring training game on Monday and came out of it feeling strong. The 25-year-old right-hander was selected away from the Astros in the Rule 5 Draft in December and will have to be added to the Marlins’ active roster at some point. He’s been on the injured list since March 28 with right biceps tendinitis.
