The Padres intend to call up LHP Roger Deago to start in place of Adam Eaton on Saturday.
So much for Carlton Loewer being next in line. Or Dennis Tankersley or Randy Keisler for that matter. This plan comes as a total surprise. Deago is 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA for Double-A Mobile. The 5-foot-8, 25-year-old Panamanian had never pitched in the minors until this season. His fastball averages 85 mph. Padres’ director of player development Tye Waller describes Deago as ''a finesse pitcher who can throw strikes and make pitches.’' Talk about a deep sleeper. Wait and see.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Roger Deago ''probably’’ will start against the Braves on Thursday.
Deago was effective against the Mets in his debut. If he can handle the Braves, he’ll be worthy of a pickup. However, he could be sent down when Adam Eaton returns.

Padres purchased the contract of LHP Roger Deago from Double-A Mobile.
The Padres seem to have a good feeling about Deago, but the 25-year-old isn’t to be picked up right now.

Roger Deago allowed two runs over six innings today in his major league debut.
Deago didn’t get a win, but he was quite effective. Both he and Mike Bynum will likely get one more start before Adam Eaton returns. Once that happens, the Padres will have to pick one of the two to remain in the rotation. Continue to wait and see what happens with Deago.

Padres optioned LHP Roger Deago to Double-A Mobile.
Deago didn’t last long and he probably didn’t show enough to put himself in position to rejoin the team any time soon.

Making his second major league start, Roger Deago surrendered seven runs in 4 1/3 innings today in a loss to the Braves.
Deago was effective in his first start, but there’s a good chance that he’ll return to the minors later this month.

Padres sent LHP Roger Deago outright to Double-A Mobile.
Remember that one week when the Padres were really high on Deago? One has to wonder whether GM Kevin Towers had ever seen him pitch before rushing him to the majors.

Padres minor leaguer Roger Deago has tested positive for a banned substance and been suspended from international play until Dec. 4., 2005.
Deago, who made two starts for the Padres last May before being removed from the 40-man roster in June, won’t be punished by MLB He’ll report to camp with the rest of the team’s minor leaguers next week.
