Astros optioned RHP Ryan Weiss to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Weiss heads back to the minors after giving up seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in relief against the Dodgers on Monday night. The 29-year-old swingman holds a bloated 7.62 ERA and 30/20 K/BB ratio across 26 innings over nine appearances this season in his Astros debut.

Ryan Weiss worked 4 2/3 innings while allowing seven runs — six earned— and took a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.
Weiss followed opener Steven Okert — who threw 2/3 of an inning and gave up a run — and unsurprisingly, it didn’t go particularly well. The 29-year-old gave up two solo homers, walked four and allowed eight hits to make his five strikeouts essentially meaningless. Weiss may get a chance to work as a bulk pitcher again, but fantasy managers should look pretty much anywhere else.

Astros activated RHP Ryan Weiss from the paternity list.
Weiss rejoins the Astros’ bullpen after welcoming a new addition to his family. The 29-year-old hurler has really struggled in his first eight appearances (two starts) for the Astros, posting a 6.65 ERA, 1.99 WHIP and a 25/16 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings.

Astros placed RHP Ryan Weiss on the paternity list.
Congrats to Ryan and his growing family. After a strong spring training, Weiss has struggled in his first season back in MLB, posting a 6.65 ERA in 21 2/3 innings across eight appearances (two starts). He should be back by the end of this weekend’s series.

Getting another chance to start, Ryan Weiss allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Guardians.
That was close to the best-case scenario, considering that Weiss gave up five hits and walked four of the 19 batters he faced. Weiss hasn’t made it out of the fourth in either of his starts. He has a 6.50 ERA and a 22/14 K/BB in 18 innings overall. The Astros have Thursday and Monday off, so Weiss probably won’t start again in the near future.

Ryan Weiss gave up two runs in 3 2/3 innings Thursday in his start against the Rockies.
Weiss, filling in for Tatsuya Imai, walked four and gave up a home run to Hunter Goodman. He was making his first start after throwing 11 innings with a 7.36 ERA in five relief appearances. It’s possible he’ll get another start next week, but middle relief seems like the better role for him.

Ryan Weiss will start Thursday’s game against the Rockies.
Weiss has pitched reasonably well with the exception of a disastrous relief outing at Coors Field earlier this month. The 29-year-old is too risky to trust in shallow mixed leagues, but he might be a decent streaming option in extremely deep formats since he’ll get the Rockies at Daikin Park. He’s unlikely to work more than a couple innings since he threw 64 in his last relief appearance.

Tatsuya Imai is being evaluated in Houston because of a “tired arm,” a source told The Athletic’s Chandler Rome.
Imai, who got just one out and walked four in his start against the Mariners on Friday, could become the third Astros starter to land on the IL since the beginning of the season. Ryan Weiss might be next in line to join the rotation.

The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports that J.P. France is “en route to Seattle to join the Astros.”
Hunter Brown (shoulder) is out for at least a month, and Cristian Javier left his start yesterday with an injury, so the Astros need to fill innings in their rotation. France has been pitching in a multi-inning role in Triple-A, so it’s unclear if he would move into the rotation or perhaps keep his bullpen role, which would allow Ryan Weiss to enter the rotation. Weiss looked good in spring training and could be an interesting name in fantasy leagues if he gets a chance to start.

Ryan Weiss delivered another strong Grapefruit League start on Saturday, allowing just two hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings of shutout baseball.
Weiss struck out one batter on the night. The 29-year-old right-hander got four swings and misses on 53 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 23 percent. He has been nothing short of brilliant this spring, compiling a 0.93 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a 7/4 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings of work. He has probably earned the right to open up in the Astros’ rotation if they go with a six-man alignment.
