Ryan Williams did not have it in Wednesday’s rain-shortened Cactus League game against the Reds, yielding five runs on five hits over 3 1/3 innings.
The game was called due to inclement weather in the fifth inning, but Williams had already been hit out of the game by that point in time. After hurling three scoreless frames, everything fell apart for Williams in the fourth. The collapse started with a two-run home run by Adam Duvall before it devolved into an eventual five-run inning for the Reds. Williams, 25, spent the 2016 season at Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a 3.27 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 30/12 K/BB ratio across nine starts (44 innings). He missed a large chunk of the campaign due to injury.
