Ryder Jones -- who recently signed a minor league contract with the Braves -- announced on his Instagram that he is making the switch to pitching full-time.
The 28-year-old struggled in his time at Triple-A Charlotte during the 2022 season, slashing a miserable .196/.269/.318 with seven homers and 27 RBI, so this could be his best shot at prolonging his baseball career. Jones was a two-way player in college but has logged just one inning on the mound in the minor leagues.

Braves signed 1B Ryder Jones to a minor league contract.
The 28-year-old slugger hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2018 season with the Giants. He spent the 2022 campaign in the White Sox system where he slashed a paltry .196/.269/.318 with seven homers and 27 RBI in 242 plate appearances. This looks like nothing more than a depth signing for the Braves.

White Sox signed INF Ryder Jones to a minor league contract.
Jones, a former second-round pick by the Giants, will likely be a corner-infield option for Triple-A Charlotte in 2022. He did post an .834 OPS over three levels in 75 games while in the Arizona organization last year, but faces an uphill battle to make the Chicago roster this spring.

Giants sent INF/OF Ryder Jones outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Jones was designated for assignment last week, but passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as depth at the Triple-A level for the Giants. The 25-year-old is a career .184/.250/.316 hitter in 172 plate appearances at the big league level.

Giants designated INF/OF Ryder Jones for assignment.
Jones got a late start to the season following last year’s knee surgery and had posted just a .529 OPS over 12 games. He’ll likely clear waivers.

Giants optioned INF/OF Ryder Jones to Triple-A Sacramento.
Jones spent most of last season in Triple-A before requiring surgery in September to repair a dislocated left kneecap. He’ll try to stay sharp in the minors while waiting for his next opportunity.

Ryder Jones (knee) took batting practice on Friday, the first time he has done so since undergoing knee surgery in September.
Jones has made quick strides in recovery from September’s surgery to cleanup tendinitis in his left knee. While he may miss the first week or so of Cactus League action, he’ll still have plenty of time to state his case for inclusion on the club’s Opening Day roster.

Ryder Jones (knee) will be slightly behind at the start of spring training.
Jones said he’s two weeks ahead of schedule as he works his way back from surgery on his left kneecap and knee, but he could still miss the first week of Cactus League games. Ultimately, it shouldn’t affect his chances of winning a spot on the Opening Day roster.
