Diamondbacks acquired RHP Sam Lewis from the Royals for 1B/OF Peter O’Brien.
Lewis registered a promising 1.62 ERA, 0.857 WHIP, and 39/7 K/BB ratio in 44 1/3 innings (three starts, 17 relief appearances) last season between three lower-level minor league affiliates of the Royals. The 25-year-old right-hander should make the jump to Double-A to open the 2017 season and he could debut out of the Diamondbacks bullpen at some point next summer if those results in the lower minors prove to be more than a fluke.
