Stephen Faris tossed six hitless innings Monday for Double-A San Antonio.
The Padres made their feelings about Faris pretty clear by returning him to Double-A this year after he went 8-5 with a 3.85 ERA, 145 H and 102/39 K/BB in 138 IP there last season. The 24-year-old knows what he’s doing on the mound, but he probably doesn’t have the stuff to get major league hitters out. That said, it’s easy to see the Padres turning to him at the back of their rotation if injuries continue to strike. He has a 1.59 ERA after three starts.
