Steve Murphy went 4-for-4 with a homer and a walk Saturday for Single-A Bakersfield.
Murphy, a 2005 14th-round pick out of Kansas State, is batting .298/.344/.539 with 18 homers and 10 steals. A left-handed hitter, he’s a sleeper to emerge as a platoon outfielder someday. He’s a few months younger than 2005 first-rounder John Mayberry Jr. and he’s the better player of the two right now.

Steve Murphy went 3-for-6 with two homers and seven RBI for Double-A Frisco on Friday.
Murphy, who posted a 743 OPS in his first go at Double-A last year, is hitting .357/.409/.612 after 98 at-bats this season. He might yet have a future as a bench player, but the Rangers have no shortage of outfielders to go through before getting to him.
