Rule 5 pick Terry Doyle was pummeled for eight runs in two-thirds of an inning by the Pirates on Thursday.
Hmmm. That’s probably not going to help his chances of making the team. Doyle entered having allowed two runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He’s not an upside guy at age 26, so there’s no reason for the Twins to carry him unless they think he can help them now. And the early results suggest that he can’t.

Twins selected RHP Terry Doyle from the White Sox in the Rule 5 draft.
Doyle doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but he throws strikes and has gotten consistent results in his minor league career. In other words, he’s the prototypical guy that the Twins usually target. A former 37th-round pick, Doyle has posted a 2.94 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 381/97 K/BB ratio over 422 2/3 innings in his minor league career. He’ll likely compete for a spot as a long man in the bullpen.
