Tigers signed LHP Thomas Szapucki to a minor league contract.
Szapucki has missed nearly two years recovering from thoracic outlet surgery and hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making 11 relief appearances between the Mets and Giants during the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old southpaw was a promising pitching prospect just a few years ago and represents an extremely low-risk dice roll for Detroit’s front office.

Giants reassigned LHPs Reggie Crawford and Thomas Szapucki to minor league camp.
Neither player was likely to make the major league roster anyway, and now they are among the earliest reassignments this spring. Crawford carries some intrigue as a first round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. He had been a two-way player and was hitting as lately as this year’s AFL season; however, the Giants have decided that he will focus exclusively on pitching now. He threw just 19 innings last year between two levels, allowing six earned runs on 15 hits while striking out 32 batters compared to just 10 walks. It will be interesting to see what a season of just pitching does for his development.

Giants re-signed LHP Thomas Szapucki to a minor league contract.
Szapucki returns to San Francisco shortly after being non-tendered earlier this month. The 27-year-old southpaw is working his way back from thoracic outlet surgery and remains without an official timeline to return.

    Giants non-tendered LHP Thomas Szapucki.
The 27-year-old Szapucki is coming off thoracic outlet surgery, and he wasn’t a big upside guy in the first place, so he doesn’t belong on the 40-man at the moment. It’s possible he’ll be re-signed to a minor league contract.

Thomas Szapucki underwent season-ending surgery Friday to correct thoracic outlet syndrome.
Szapucki sought several medical opinions over the last few weeks before the determination was made to go the surgical route. It’s a complicated procedure that carries at least a 12-week recovery timetable in a best-case scenario. The 26-year-old lefty is already on the 60-day injured list and likely won’t return until the 2024 campaign.

Giants placed LHP Thomas Szapucki on the 60-day injured list with left arm neuropathy.
Szapucki has been searching for answers since he couldn’t feel his fingers in his first outing of the spring. He saw a doctor who specialized in thoracic outlet syndrome and it’s safe to say that he’s a ways off from pitching in a game again.

Thomas Szapucki (arm) is scheduled to see thoracic outlet specialist Dr. Robert Thompson in St. Louis next week.
Szapucki has been dealing with arm issues since late-February and is still looking for answers. Obviously it isn’t a good sign that he’s scheduled to talk to someone who specializes in thoracic outlet syndrome. It’s safe to say that he’s probably a ways off from a return to game action.

Thomas Szapucki is getting a second opinion on his injured left arm.
Szapucki is dealing with an unspecified left upper arm injury and there isn’t too much clarity on his timeline to return yet. There should be another official update on his status prior to the regular season, but he’s almost certainly facing an extended absence.

Thomas Szapucki is undergoing tests due to elbow soreness.
Acquired from the Mets in the Darin Ruf deal last summer, Szapucki hasn’t appeared in game since February 26. There should be more clarity on his status soon, but it appears that his readiness for the season is in doubt.

Giants placed LHP Thomas Szapucki on the 15-day injured list with a right hip strain.
Szapucki suffered the injury during an appearance over the weekend and it will end his season.
