The Braves announced that they have hired former Orioles’ interim manager Tony Mansolino to be their next third base coach.
Mansolino had been the third base coach for more than four seasons before taking over as their interim manager in May of 2025. The Braves also announced that J.P. Martinez will be the team’s next bullpen coach. Martinez spent the 2025 campaign as the Giants’ pitching coach after serving as an assistant pitching coach from 2021-2024. New Braves’ manager Walt Weiss has done a nice job assembling a well-rounded and experienced staff in relatively short order after being officially hired on Monday.

The Braves have named Jeremy Hefner pitching coach and Antoan Richardson first base coach.
Both are coming over from the Mets, Hefner after being replaced and Richardson after declining to sign a new contract with the team. Hefner was very well regarded entering last season, but the Mets felt they needed to make big changes after coming up short in 2025. Richardson got much of the credit for Juan Soto’s stolen base outburst, and he might encourage the Braves to do more running after they finished 26th in MLB with 82 steals last season.

Braves hired Walt Weiss as their next manager.
Weiss takes over as Atlanta’s skipper after Brian Snitker stepped down at the end of last season following a decade at the helm. This marks the 61-year-old’s first managerial opportunity since his four-year stint with the Rockies from 2013-16, where he compiled a 283-365 (.437) record without a postseason appearance. He’s spent the past eight seasons as the Braves’ bench coach and serves as a logical in-house successor — a familiar voice for the club’s veteran core. In an offseason full of youthful hires and unconventional, out-of-the-box gambles, Weiss stands out as a rare throwback — a reminder that not every adaptation has to be a revolution.

Walt Weiss is expected to return for his second season as the Rockies manager in 2014.
Rockies owner Dick Monfort clarified Friday that he wants Weiss back, and that Weiss wants to return. The only thing left to do now is iron out a contract, though negotiations won’t begin until after the conclusion of the season.

Dante Bichette will resign after one season as the Rockies’ hitting coach.
It’s for personal reasons, as Bichette has had trouble being away from his family. The Rockies are currently tied for second in the National League with 690 runs scored this season.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss will meet with team owner Dick Monfort and members of the front office beginning Wednesday.
Monfort has already said that he wants Weiss back for 2014, but the two sides still need to hammer out a contract. While Weiss worked on a one-year deal this past season, he has acknowledged that having more than one year on his contract might have an impact on how his players view him. The Rockies finished at 74-88 this season.

The Rockies have hired Blake Doyle as their hitting coach and Eric Young, Sr. as their first base coach.
Young, who played five seasons with the Rockies, worked in the same capacity with the Diamondbacks from 2010-2012. This will be Doyle’s first professional coaching job.

MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan reports that Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu is no longer in the running for the Diamondbacks and Rockies manager jobs.
He interviewed for both but evidently didn’t make the final cut. Wakamatsu will presumably return as manager Ned Yost’s right-hand man in 2017.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu will interview for the Diamondbacks’ and Rockies’ open manager jobs.
Wakamatsu has been the Royals’ bench coach since 2014 and was the Mariners’ manager for 2009 and then part of 2010 before he was fired. Tim Wallach, Glenallen Hill, Brad Mills, Bud Black, Dave Martinez and Sandy Alomar Jr. have been tied to the Rockies’ job, while Torey Lovullo and Alex Cora have been connected to the Diamondbacks’ gig.

Reyes Urena of El Universal in Venezuela reports that the Rockies are considering Eddie Perez for their managerial vacancy.
Perez, who is currently the first base coach for the Braves, has already interviewed for the managerial opening in Atlanta. The Rockies are also known to have interest in Glenallen Hill, who currently serves as the manager of their Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque.
