Cole Davies was more than one second quicker than the field during the morning qualification sessions for the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, posting a lap of 2:19.661 compared to second-place Caden Dudney’s 2:21.048.
Davies’ time would have been faster still if he had not failed sound and lost his best lap. He swept qualification with the fastest times in both sessions, and with the track severely rutted from Friday rain, he will look forward to the motos.
The 250 divisional points leader, Levi Kitchen (2:22:081), was another second back on a track that was pummeled by rain on Friday.
Ryder DiFrancesco (2:22.082) and Michael Mosiman (2:23.517) rounded out the top five.
That means the other two riders ahead of Davies in the championship standings will start outside the top five with Julien Beaumer (2:23.607) qualifying seventh and Jo Shimoda (2:24.082) posting only the 11th fastest time.
