INDYCAR confirms Road America 2017 date, on June 25

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - Road America’s date has been confirmed for the same weekend as this year, June 25, by INDYCAR.

Track president George Bruggenthies told assembled reporters that this was one of, if not the biggest crowd, he’s seen on site.

“We’d love to invite the series back and we’ve got a contract for June 25, 2017, so that’s really exciting to announce that right now,” he said.

“It was [bigger than expected]. You know, I know they probably exaggerated numbers in the early days, but I talked to a couple of my board of directors, and this is likely the largest event ever hosted by Road America, so that’s really something.”

Jay Frye, INDYCAR President of Competition and Operations, confirmed the date and the great feedback in a quote distributed to reporters:

“We had a tremendous event weekend here at Road America and we’re certainly looking forward to the Verizon IndyCar Series returning next year on June 25. The fan support and hospitality since we arrived has been phenomenal and we can’t thank George Bruggenthies and his entire staff at Road America enough for making this such a special event for INDYCAR. We can’t wait to come back next year and do it again.”

Date equity was one of the issues that resigned the Milwaukee Mile race to its ending after the conclusion of last year. The Milwaukee race ran in mid-June, late-August, and then mid-July, being shifted three years in a row.

So it’s great to see Road America confirmed not only for next year, but for exactly the same weekend.
