18-year NBA veteran and former All-Star, Clifford Robinson, passed away on Saturday at the young age of 53.
The 2020 hits just won’t stop with Robinson’s death coming just one day after the tragic passing of Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman. Robinson spent his best days with the Trail Blazers, accompanying the team on two Finals runs against Michael Jordan’s Bulls, and he was named to the All-Star team in ’93-94 when he compiled averages of 20.1 points, 6.7 boards, 1.9 dimes, 1.4 steals and 1.4 swats per game on 45.7% shooting. He won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 1993, was inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and he was also named a member of UConn’s All-Decade team. Rest in Power, Uncle Cliffy.

  • League sources claimed yesterday that there was some stirring in the Warriors’ camp on the Clifford Robinson front.
The Nets have been an obvious suitor, but they say they aren’t the ones causing the commotion this time. They do face the Warriors tonight, however, so if something is going to get done, now might be the time.
  • Clifford Robinson had an MRI on his stiff lower back Tuesday.
“Something’s not right,” he said. Robinson missed his fifth practice and is questionable for tonight, which would be his third consecutive game missed. Adonal Foyle is starting in his place.
  • The Nets’ acquisition of Elden Campbell ends their pursuit of Golden State’s Clifford Robinson.
The Warriors, after asking for a first rounder that the Nets declined to yield, now seek a player. The Nets also said no to that idea.
  • The Pistons appear to be leaning toward selecting 7-foot-2 Yugoslavian forward Darko Milicic with the second pick in the NBA draft.
The Pistons watched Milicic work out before last night’s lottery and came away very impressed. The feeling is that the 17-year-old could be the next Dirk Nowitzki. If the Pistons opt not to go with Milicic, they’ll almost certainly pick Carmelo Anthony.
  • Clifford Robinson, who missed last night’s game with a sore back, is listed as probable for tonight.
Adonal Foyle started in his place last night, and has played with renewed focus lately, so this could be an interesting situation to watch.
  • Cliff Robinson missed his second game with a sore back, but he visited two chiropractors Saturday and said he felt better.
Robinson expects to play on Wednesday.
  • Cliff Robinson is playing with a sprained left thumb.
Robinson is averaging 11.3 points and 4.7 rebounds while starting every game for the Warriors. He could be replaced by Troy Murphy once Murphy is up to speed.
  • Coach Eric Musselman said he isn’t yet ready to replace Clifford Robinson with Troy Murphy in the starting lineup.
“We’re taking it one game at a time,” Musselman said. “Cliff’s done a good job, too. It’s been a balancing act. We know Troy is a starter in this league; Cliff’s done a great job. At the appropriate time, we’ll look at those things.” Murphy’s value and minutes will continue to climb, but he may need the team to go on a losing streak to get into the starting lineup.
  • The Warriors don’t want to trade Clifford Robinson because they feel their frontcourt defense would collapse without him there.
They’re probably right, as Cliffy is regarded as one of the league’s best defensive players. If you’re waiting for him to get shipped to New Jersey, it’s looking more and more unlikely.
