Blazers sign G/F Coby Karl to a non-guaranteed contract.
Karl, like most training camp invites, will be viewed as a long shot to make the final roster. He averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists in summer league. The Blazers have also inked Adam Morrison, Demonte Harper and Dallas Lauderdale for training camp.

The Blazers will waive F Adam Morrison, G Coby Karl and F Justin Holiday.
They will no longer practice with the team and the moves put the Blazers at 15 rostered players. Karl made the biggest impression in camp, and it’s possible he could be signed to some 10-day contracts later this season. Morrison averaged just three points in five preseason games for Portland, likely signaling the end of his disastrous career.

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Coby Karl, son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl.
Karl, who was undrafted, averaged 12.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in five games for the Lakers 2007 Summer-Pro League team and his comeback from a bout with cancer is one of the league’s feel-good stories. He averaged 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a senior at Boise State last season and was named first team All-WAC. He returned to the court last month, just 2½ months after having cancerous lymph nodes removed. It was his second bout with cancer in a little more than a year. He had his thyroid removed in 2006 and chemotherapy after his junior season at Boise State.

Coby Karl played in a D-League game on Tuesday afternoon and then scored five points in six minutes for the Lakers after they recalled him on Tuesday night.
Jordan Farmar pulled off the same feat last season, and Karl had to love the “Coby” chants he heard as the Lakers crushed the Hawks. He even had a monster jam late in the game, but has no fantasy value.
