The Cavs signed point guard Daniel Gibson to a contract on Friday, but terms were not disclosed.
If there’s any position the Cavs have a weakness in, it’s point guard. So despite the fact Gibson was taken with the 42nd pick in the draft, it’s possible he could see decent minutes backing up Eric Snow.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Cavs GM Chris Grant named Daniel Gibson as a candidate to pick up backup point guard minutes.
The Cavs unloaded Ramon Sessions and didn’t acquire another point guard. Gibson was already playing 24.4 minutes as the backup shooting guard and is now line for a little boost. There’s some upside here for deep-leaguers in need of 3-pointers.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson left Monday’s game in the second half due to a sprained ankle, finishing with four points on 1-of-5 shooting, two rebounds, and one assist in 17 minutes.
We’re calling him day-to-day until we get a more clear report. Anthony Parker could get some extra run if Gibson misses any time, as could undrafted newcomer Donald Sloan. Neither will be worth fantasy consideration in most formats.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson (ankle) is day-to-day after x-rays taken after Monday’s game were negative.
Gibson’s status should be considered questionable going forward. If he is forced to miss any time, Anthony Parker should see a slight increase in minutes but won’t be worth consideration in the majority of fantasy formats.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson (foot) got a second opinion and will “likely” need surgery.
This should make it official that Gibson won’t be returning this season. Anthony Parker, Alonzo Gee, Omri Casspi and Manny Harris should all see a slight bump in minutes to make up for the 26 minutes that Gibson had been playing.

Daniel Gibson scored eight points off the bench on Friday, hitting 3-of-7 shots from the field (including two threes) with seven assists and two blocks in 30 minutes.
Gibson had the extra assists because he played backup point guard with Kyrie Irving (illness) out, but the reason to watch him is Byron Scott’s dissatisfaction with the current lineup and rotation. Anthony Parker will probably hold his starting job, but if he doesn’t then Gibson is the favorite to step in.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson (ankle) “probably won’t play” on Wednesday against the Hawks or Friday against the Magic.
Gibson has been in a pretty bad shooting slump of late, shooting just 34.9 percent in March, and now his bum ankle will likely keep him out of action over the next two games. Anthony Parker will see his minutes increased with Gibson sidelined, but he just doesn’t have enough upside to be worthy of fantasy consideration in standard-sized leagues.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Daniel Gibson (ankle) will not play on Wednesday.
Gibson is iffy for Friday’s game also, which opens up more playing time for veteran SG Anthony Parker.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #1
Updating a previous item, Daniel Gibson (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Hawks.
There was an earlier report that Gibson probably wouldn’t play in the next two games, so his ankle must be feeling much better. He’s averaging 7.5 points and 1.6 treys this season in 26 minutes per game.
  • DAL Guard #11
Kyrie Irving (shoulder) will be out at least one week.
“We’ll see how he reacts in the next four or five days with treatment and rest,” Byron Scott said. “I’ve given thought to it. I think the time he could probably return, there might be two weeks left in the season.” Owners have to ensure that Irving is on the bench, and D-League product Donald Sloan will likely see a bulk of minutes at point guard with Irving and Daniel Gibson (foot) sidelined. In Sloan’s lone start this season, he put up 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
