The rookie will report to Albuquerque this weekend for camp. He was one of the first assigned to the league under new rules that allow players to remain part of the team’s roster while playing in the minors.

He was part of the Kurt Thomas - Quentin Richardson deal, as the Knicks took him with the 54th pick in the draft.

He is expected to miss up to six months. The rookie averaged 2.8 PPG in 10 contests durng his rookie campaign.

He hasn’t played since Feb. 4, and has no fantasy value.

Thompson has been very quiet lately, but could see his role expand if Anderson Varejao’s left leg/ankle injury costs him any games, which seems likely. Cleveland plays again on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, before launching into a four-game Week 10, so fantasy owners should keep a close eye on the Cavs’ injury report.

He is coming off microfracture knee surgery, so it’s unknown what his chances are of actually making the team.

That leaves Anthony Roberson and Matt Barnes as the only players in camp without a guaranteed contract, so they’re probably next in line to go.

Thompson played 12 games this season with Albuquerque of the D-League, averaging 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists. Thompson split last season between Albuquerque and Phoenix of the NBA. He averaged 2.8 points in 10 games with the Suns.

He’s going to be active tonight in place of injured Leandro Barbosa.
