Malcolm Brogdon announced on Wednesday that he has retired from the NBA.
Having played nine seasons in the NBA, Brogdon was in training camp with the Knicks on a non-guaranteed deal. The feeling among many insiders was that he and Landry Shamet were the favorites to earn opening night roster slots, with the Knicks needing to trade a player (potentially Pacôme Dadiet) to make that happen. However, Brogdon’s decision to call it a career may impact the Knicks’ thinking regarding Dadiet or Tyler Kolek. The 36th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Brogdon won Rookie of the Year and was also the 2022-23 Sixth Man of the Year as a member of the Celtics.

Tyler Kolek finished Monday’s exhibition loss to the Wizards with 20 points (7-of-13 FGs, 5-of-5 FTs), four rebounds, six assists, one steal and one three-pointer.
The Knicks resting their starters on Monday did not result in Kolek moving into the starting lineup, as head coach Mike Brown went with Malcolm Brogdon (4/2/3/1 in 18 minutes). However, the second-year guard took advantage of his opportunities, leading the Knicks in points and assists while shooting over 50 percent from the field. During the preseason, the assumption has been that the Knicks will keep two veterans, with Brogdon and Landry Shamet (DNP-illness on Monday) considered the favorites. However, Kolek, who is on a guaranteed contract, can make the decision difficult for the Knicks by building on Monday’s performance.

Malcolm Brogdon, Miles McBride, Jordan Clarkson, Pacôme Dadiet and Guerschon Yabusele will start Monday’s game against the Wizards.
With the preseason ending on Friday and rosters needing to be finalized over the weekend, the Knicks are using Monday’s game as an opportunity to evaluate the players fighting for spots. None of the projected starters will play, and reserves Landry Shamet and Ariel Hukporti are out due to illness. Of the players starting on Monday, Brogdon and Dadiet are the ones to watch. The former is looking to lock down a roster spot, and if the Knicks keep two veterans, Dadiet’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors to make room.

Miles McBride accounted for 12 points (5-of-7 FGs), five rebounds, two assists, three steals and two three-pointers in Thursday’s win over the 76ers.
Having posted career-best averages in points, rebounds, assists, steals and three-pointers last season, McBride is a player who may be worth taking a late-round flier on in drafts. He was efficient offensively in his bench role on Thursday while adding a nice bonus of three steals. While capable of facilitating for others, McBride may be best equipped to offer late-round value in steals and three-pointers, especially if the Knicks keep Malcolm Brogdon to provide a steady hand off the bench as Jalen Brunson’s backup. Brogdon, one of the veterans competing for a roster spot in training camp, contributed three points, one rebound, two assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in 12 minutes.

According to multiple reports, the Knicks signed Malcolm Brogdon to a one-year contract.
Brogdon has agreed to a one-year deal with the Knicks, with SNY’s Ian Begley reporting that the contract is non-guaranteed. The deal is similar to the one agreed to by Landry Shamet on Thursday, and they, along with Garrison Mathews, will compete for a veteran’s minimum contract in training camp. Brogdon, who has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, appeared in 24 games for the Wizards last season, averaging 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 0.7 three-pointers in 23.5 minutes. He’s surpassed the 60 games played mark once in his last six seasons, making 67 appearances and winning Sixth Man of the Year honors during his lone campaign in Boston (2022-23).

Wizards coach Brian Keefe said Saturday he expects Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) to return before the season ends.
Saturday’s game against the Hornets will be the fifth Brogdon has missed with a sprained left ankle, having suffered the injury before the All-Star break. Keefe’s statement didn’t offer a specific timeline beyond saying he expects Brogdon to play at some point. The veteran guard has been more impactful in the Wizards locker room than in fantasy leagues, and that won’t change when he returns.

Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) is out for Wednesday’s game against the Trail Blazers.
Brogdon hasn’t played since the All-Star break, and it’s unclear when he might suit up next. Bub Carrington and Corey Kispert will continue to see extra minutes with the 32-year-old point guard sidelined.

Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) will miss Monday’s matchup with the Nets.
Brogdon has yet to play post All-Star break, and there’s no timeline for his return. Bub Carrington and Corey Kispert should see additional run for as long as he’s sidelined.

Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game against the Magic.
Brogdon sprained his left ankle before the All-Star break, and Sunday’s game will be the second that he’s missed. With Khris Middleton (ankles) also out, more minutes will be available to Bub Carrington and Corey Kispert, with the former likely moving into the starting lineup. Both players are worth streaming in this spot.

Malcolm Brogdon (leg) will not be available for Friday’s game against the Bucks.
Brogdon injured his left leg during Washington’s February 12 loss to the Pacers. While he does not have a timeline for return, Wizards coach Brian Keefe said after Wednesday’s practice that Brogdon will not be available for Friday’s game. Bub Carrington’s playing time should be secure as the starter, while Marcus Smart could make his Wizards debut after practicing on Wednesday.
