The Sonics selected Saer Sene with the 10th pick in the draft.
He’s from Senegal and isn’t thought to be ready for the NBA next season. He could spend it overseas, as the Sonics let Robert Swift develop. This appears to be a stretch, as Saer Sene wasn’t expected to go in the top 15. At this point, this is the worst pick of the draft. He averaged just three points in Belgium.
  • Mouhamed Sene is expected to be signed by the Sonics on Friday.
He’s expected to get a four-year deal worth a guaranteed $3.3 million in the first two years under terms outlined in the NBA rookie scale.
  • Coach P.J. Carlesimo is baffled by some of the mistakes made by Mouhamed Sene, implying that he’ll end up spending a lot of time in the D League again this season.
“He’s so young to basketball from an experience standpoint,” Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said. “Watching him practice, he’ll make some plays and you’re just really encouraged and enthused about. And then some other times you’re like, ‘How can he do that?’” Sene won’t have much fantasy value this season, and the Sonics are still probably asking themselves why they drafted project centers for three straight years. It looks like they got it right this time around, grabbing Kevin Durant with the No. 2 pick.
  • ATL Center #10
The Sonics Friday picked up the contract options on centers Johan Petro and Mouhamed Sene for the 2008-09 season.
Petro played in 81 games last season, averaging 6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds, while Sene, the 10th overall pick in 2006, scored 1.9 points and grabbed 1.6 rebounds in just 28 games last season.

Robert Swift (sore right knee) remains questionable for Sunday’s contest against the Clippers.
Kurt Thomas (hamstring) is doubtful for the game so coach P.J. Carislimo is considering giving C Mouhamed Sene extensive playing time. There remains no timetable for Swift’s return.
  • The Sonics assigned Mouhamed Sene to Idaho of the Developmental League.
The 10th overall pick of the 2006 draft, Sene is averaging 1.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 37 career games with the Sonics. He’s a major project and won’t have any fantasy value for this season.
  • Coach P.J. Carlesimo said that if the injury to Chris Wilcox keeps him out longer than anticipated, the Sonics may consider bringing Mouhamed Sene back from the NBDL.
“It would be something we’d need to look at,” Carlesimo said. Even if Sene got the starting job though, he’s still not worth picking up in fantasy leagues. He’s a project still - and is years away from paying off dividends.
  • Sonics’ coach P.J. Carlesimo admitted that Mouhamed Sene and Mickael Gelabale will likely be assigned to the Sonics’ Developmental League team in Idaho. “Right now, they are both a victim of numbers,” Carlesimo said. “We got to wait and see what happens. You hate to say it, wait and see if an injury happens.”
There you have it. Unless an injury (or more likely two or three) occurs, Sene and Gelabale shouldn’t be on anybody’s fantasy radar.
  • Mouhamed Sene will not be sent to the D-League as was anticipated, but will instead remain on the Sonics’ active roster.
“We only have 11 guys to begin with and Mo has been aggressive and playing well,” said Sonics’ coach P.J. Carlesimo. Don’t expect Sene to have any fantasy value this season.
  • The Knicks signed center Mouhamed Sene.
The 2006 first-round pick has been a bust so far in the NBA, and averaged just 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in five games with the Thunder this season.
