Greg Monroe faces a two-game suspension for drunk driving, and initially reported details of the incident – with the scope of drunk driving, which is always a severe issue – seem relatively minor.
The Pistons forward registered a blood-alcohol content barely above the legal limit, and he promptly apologized through a team statement.
But as reports dig deeper, the story gets more embarrassing for Monroe.
Monroe, according to Gus Burs of MLive:
“urinated on himself during the booking process,” the Huntington Woods police report documenting his arrest says.
“I’m just trying not to be in the newspaper,” Monroe is heard saying to the officers during transport to the jail.
“I play for the Pistons,” Monroe said.
“You play for the Detroit Pistons,” asks one of the officers in the vehicle. “Unless you told people who are going to tell people, we’re not going to tell people,” an officer is heard saying.
Whatever factors led to Monroe urinating on himself, trash talkers on opposing teams and in opposing fan-bases sure have plenty of ammo now.
