Hawks GM Danny Ferry made racially insensitive remarks on a conference call with ownership while discussing then-free-agent Luol Deng, and those comments sound even more indefensible when hearing them first hand.
But not everyone is calling for Ferry’s head.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has gone on record saying that Ferry shouldn’t be fired over his comments, and Raptors GM Masai Ujiri penned a thoughtful letter in which he essentially said that Ferry crossed a line, but that “we all make mistakes.”
Now another team’s general manager has spoken out to give Ferry some additional support.

King on Ferry: “I have known him since we were 15 years old. He is like a brother to me and he is the furthest thing from a racist.”It’s hard to believe that Ferry would have gotten this far in his career in NBA front offices if he was actually a racist. But that doesn’t change the fact that the remarks he made were extremely insensitive, and should still probably cost him his job in light of what a sensitive topic this has become, especially within the Hawks organization.
