After the Finals, Steve Kerr is going to have to find a new assistant coach. The Pelicans have named Alvin Gentry their new head coach, and while he’s going to finish out the Finals with Golden State, Kerr is going to have a hole on his bench that needs filling for next season.

One name that’s come up is former Nuggets coach Brian Shaw, and Yahoo’s Marc Spears reports that Shaw would be open to taking the job:

Former Nuggets coach Brian Shaw is interested in replacing Gentry as the Warriors associate head coach, a source told Yahoo Sports. Shaw is an Oakland native who attended Warriors practice on Saturday. The Shaw family recently moved back to their Oakland Hills home.

Shaw was fired by the Nuggets in March after a disappointing season-plus in Denver. When he was an assistant, first with the Lakers under Phil Jackson and then with the Pacers under Frank Vogel, he was one of the coaching prospects most highly touted around the league as future head coaching material. Given the way his tenure in turned out, he might be better suited to be an assistant than a head coach.
