Fresh off signing forward Danilo Gallinari to an extension, the Nuggets are on the verge of bringing back a key bench player from last year’s group. The Denver Post‘s Chris Dempsey reports that veteran big man Darrell Arthur is close to re-signing:

Using some of the financial flexibility they gained in the recent Ty Lawson trade, the Nuggets are finalizing a contract extension with forward Danilo Gallinari and will also sign free agent Darrell Arthur, according to NBA sources.

Arthur, a 6-foot-9 forward, will return to the Nuggets for a third season. He has become one of the team’s best defenders. He averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last season in a reserve role.

Earlier in the offseason, Arthur had drawn interest from the Clippers, who badly needed frontcourt depth. But they went elsewhere to fill their holes up front, signing Josh Smith and Cole Aldrich to cheap contracts.
