Report: Pacers interested in MarShon Brooks, Gary Forbes as Paul George replacements
But in the simplest sense, their wing depth is thinner by one payer.
That modest problem can be solved through modest solutions, and in MarShon Brooks and Gary Forbes, that’s apparently what Indiana is eying.
Shams Charania of RealGM:
The Indiana Pacers have free agent MarShon Brooks on a short list of wing possibilities for a deal, league sources tell RealGM.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) August 3, 2014
Free agent Gary Forbes has interest from the Grizzlies and Pacers as he mulls China deal to attempt NBA midseason, source tells RealGM.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) August 3, 2014
Brooks has yet to use his scoring potential to find footing in the NBA. In the last 13 months, he’s been with the Nets, Celtics, Warriors and Lakers.
Forbes had a couple decent seasons off the bench, one with the Nuggets and another with the Raptors. But he last played in the NBA in 2012. Since, he’s played in China and the D-League.
These are clearly minimum-salary-level players.
However, the Pacers already have 15 players under contract, so if they add Brooks or Forbes or anyone else, someone has to go before the regular season. That could be bad news for Donald Sloan (fully unguaranteed contract) or Shayne Whittington (just $25,000 guaranteed).
The Grizzlies only have slightly more room to accommodate Forbes. They have 14 players with guaranteed contracts plus a non-guaranteed deal for Patrick Christopher.
