The Blazers are not satisfied with their choices to back up center Dale Davis.
Neither of the two candidates, Ruben Boumtje Boumtje nor Mamadou N’Diaye, has played well this preseason. Coach Maurice Cheeks seems to prefer sliding Rasheed Wallace over to center when Davis needs a rest. One of Boumtje Boumtje or N’Diaye will be cut before rosters are set next week. There are also whispers of Arvydas Sabonis coming back to Portland after his season in Europe is finished.
  • Ruben Boumtje Boumtje has an edge over Jason Jennings and Mamadou N’Diaye through the first week of training camp in the battle for the backup center job.
The Blazers would still like to acquire a veteran backup, but if them can’t find one, Boom-Boom could get significant minutes for the first time in his career.
  • Trailblazers placed center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje on the injured list with a sprained left ankle.
No word on how much time Boom-Boom is expected to miss.
  • The Spurs are looking to add center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje, forward James Thomas and guard Marque Perry to their roster.
Thomas, 23, will get a two-year deal, though it will include only a partial guarantee. The expected signings would give the Spurs 18 players for the start of camp, depending on the contract status of Angolan guard Valter Monteiro. The Spurs had hoped to sign Monteiro to a non-guaranteed deal, but the NBA and FIBA are investigating whether a foreign team still owns his rights.
  • Trail Blazers activated center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje from the injured list.
Boumtje Boumtje, who spent a couple of days on the active roster in January, has yet to get into a game this season.
  • Spurs waived center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje.
Boumtje Boumtje averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.6 minutes in five preseason games.
  • Trail Blazers placed center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje on the injured list with left knee tendinitis.
  • Ruben Boumtje Boumtje, Tracy Murray, Robert Pack and Adam Keefe are among the players the Blazers have invited to camp.
All will be competing for spots on a crowded Portland roster. Boumtje Boumtje has spent the last two years with the Blazers, but his contract has expired, so he’s hardly guaranteed a spot. He played in just two games last season.
  • Ruben Boumtje Boumtje sat out Tuesday’s game with a sprained left ankle.
    Boumtje Boumtje is day-to-day.
  • Ruben Boumtje Boumtje was traded from Portland to Cleveland in a three-player deal.
Boumtje Boumtje will replace Bruno Sundov as the center who flips back and forth between being the end of the bench and the injured list.
