Wesley Johnson plans to join the Raptors’ G-League affiliate, Raptors 905, as an assistant coach, as a part of the NBPA’s coaching transition program, according to Blake Murphy of The Athletic.
Johnson, who is now 34, last played for the Greece club Panathinaikos in 2019, and now looks to transition into coaching. “I know I wanted to do something post-career,” Johnson said. “I never thought that I would think about coaching, but they’ve been reaching out to me for a couple years, the NBPA coaching program. As the years start winding down, I thought more into it.” Johnson will function as a part of Head Coach Patrick Mutombo’s staff and one of his main functions will be to get on the court with players and assist with workouts.

  • Small Forward #33
Wes Johnson has signed a contract with Panathinaikos of Greece.
Johnson’s numbers have been on a steady downward trajectory since 2014, and the 31-year-old only managed to produce averages of 3.4 points, 1.9 boards and not much else on 35.2% shooting this past season. He’ll now take his talents overseas, but his NBA career could be over.
  • Small Forward #33
The Wizards have waived Wes Johnson.
The 31-year-old veteran has logged a total of six minutes in the past two weeks and there was no need for him on a eliminated roster on the verge of a rebuild.
  • Small Forward #33
Wes Johnson went 0-of-3 from the field (1-of-2 FTs) for one point with one assist in 16 minutes against the Pacers.
Johnson is now 0-of-10 shooting in his last three games and has scored a total of two points. He’s playing 18.8 minutes per game over his last five, but he’s not worth owning in basically any fantasy format.

Wesley Johnson shot 5-of-6 from the field Saturday vs. the Bulls, scoring 14 points with one rebound, one assist, one blocked shot and three 3-pointers in 20 minutes.
After accounting for just two points, one rebound and one blocked shot in his Wizards debut Friday, Johnson was much better in Saturday’s win over the Bulls. The 14 points are a season-high for the ninth-year forward out of Syracuse, but he needs to be more consistent if he’s to be of any value fantasy-wise. Interestingly enough Johnson’s scored in double figures twice this season, with the Bulls being the opponent in both games (12 points on November 7 as a member of the Pelicans).
  • Small Forward #33
Wesley Johnson is available for Friday against the Cavs.
It’s not going to be easy for him to get minutes with Jordan McRae playing well and the Wizards being mostly healthy on the wings. Leave him on the wire.
  • Small Forward #33
Wesley Johnson will be traded to the Wizards on Wednesday.
The Wizards might just waive him after the deadline, and Johnson likely wouldn’t have much fantasy value even if he stayed on the roster.
  • Small Forward #33
Wes Johnson was a DNP-CD again on Wednesday against the Mavs.
He’s been a DNP-CD in three straight and the Pelicans will likely stick with Tim Frazier until Elfrid Payton comes back. Johnson has almost no fantasy value.
  • Power Forward #3
Nikola Mirotic (illness) has been ruled out for Monday’s game against the Clippers.
Mirotic wasn’t on the injury report this morning and played well across 30 minutes on Sunday, so this is certainly a surprising late scratch. Julius Randle or Wes Johnson could replace him in the starting five tonight, but it’s Randle who will benefit most. There will also be more touches for guys like Jrue Holiday, E’Twaun Moore and Anthony Davis. The Pelicans take on the Mavs on Wednesday, and for now, we’ll consider Mirotic questionable for that one.
  • NBA Shooting Guard #55
E’Twaun Moore (left tibial contusion) will return to the starting lineup for Monday’s matchup with the Clippers, and he will not have a minutes limit.
Moore needed to be helped off the court on Friday after sustaining his injury, so it’s somewhat surprising that he’ll be back out there after only missing one game. Wes Johnson will likely return to the second unit with Moore back. Moore is having a solid season with averages of 15.1 points, 2.2 dimes and 1.6 treys per game, so give him a look if he was cut after the injury scare.
