A first-round pick in 2000, Plummer started for San Francisco from his rookie year until 2003. Injuries cost him much of the following two seasons and he clashed with Mike Nolan when the coach took over in 2004. Plummer, 30, had drawn mild interest from the Titans during the offseason after being released by the Niners in February.

The 49ers overpaid cornerback “can’t handle any fast movement,” right now. Still, San Francisco believes he’ll be ready for Chicago this weekend.

“Do I think it’s a season-ending thing? That’s not what I’ve been told,” coach Erickson said. “It’s a week-by-week thing.”
