Panthers hired ex-LB Ben Jacobs as an assistant special teams coach.
Jacobs was just released from his playing contract on Monday. Jacobs joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2011, but he participated in just five regular-season games before joining the Panthers in 2014. He became a special teams mainstay in Carolina, so it is not surprising that is where he will begin his coaching career.
  • Linebacker
    Panthers released LB Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs’ contract was expiring anyway, but the Panthers did him a favor by allowing Jacobs to test the market early. Without this transaction, Jacobs would’ve had to wait for March 13 to shop his wares. He’s a core special teamer.
  • Linebacker
Browns signed LB Ben Jacobs and DL Brian Sanford from their practice squad.
They will take the roster spots of SLB Scott Fujita (hand) and RE Emmanuel Stephens (pectoral), who were both lost for the season with injuries sustained in Week 12.
  • Linebacker
Browns LB Ben Jacobs sustained a concussion in Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
The Browns’ linebacker has taken a hit with Titus Brown also suffering a “significant” knee injury. Both players are candidates for injured reserve so late in the season.

    Panthers signed LB Ben Jacobs.
A 2011 undrafted free agent, Jacobs appeared in five games for the Browns as a rookie before a concussion ended his season. He was out of the league in 2012. He’s just a camp body for the Panthers.

Jacobs will likely contribute on special teams if active this week. He’s taking Jon Beason’s spot on the 53-man roster.
  • Linebacker
    Panthers waived LB Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs was out of football in 2012 after making five appearances for the Browns in 2011. He’s a candidate for the Panthers’ practice squad.
  • Linebacker
Panthers re-signed LB Ben Jacobs to a two-year contract.
Jacobs is merely a special teams player who was slated to be a restricted free agent. He’s been bouncing on and off the roster the past four years.
  • Linebacker
Panthers re-signed exclusive rights free agent LB Ben Jacobs to a one-year, $675,000 contract.
Jacobs has appeared in all 32 games over the past two seasons for Carolina as a special teams player. He had nine tackles covering kicks in 2015.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Browns released or waived DE Derreck Robinson, DL Auston English, and LB Benjamin Jacobs.
Robinson was signed in 2009 to fit Rob Ryan’s 3-4 scheme. At 6'4/295, he was a man without a position in Dick Jauron’s 4-3 defense. English went undrafted in 2010 after a productive career at Oklahoma.
