Lions RB Brian Calhoun saw his first action of the preseason Friday, and carried six times for seven yards.
The third-round rookie appears to be behind Arlen Harris and Shawn Bryson on the depth chart. Calhoun also had two catches for six yards.
  • DET Running Back
Following the release of Arlen Harris, Lions third-round RB Brian Calhoun bumps up a notch on Detroit’s depth chart.
We didn’t see much of Calhoun in the preseason until a solid outing in the exhibition finale (19 touches, 82 yards). He’s still behind Kevin Jones and Shawn Bryson, but is now closing in on re-draft fantasy value.
  • DET Running Back
Lions placed RB Brian Calhoun on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.
The extent of Calhoun’s new injury wasn’t revealed, but he is believed to have re-injured the ACL he tore in practice as a 2006 rookie. Calhoun was never at full strength as a sophomore. He’s uncertain to make the Lions in 2008.
  • DET Running Back
Lions RB Brian Calhoun (knee) sat out practice Wednesday, and the Lions reportedly may be considering placing him on injured reserve.
Calhoun suffered a torn ACL in practice last year, so this is of some concern for deep leaguers. The 2006 third-round pick from Wisconsin may have re-injured the same knee. His status moving forward is uncertain.
  • DET Running Back
Lions second-year running back Brian Calhoun (knee) isn’t expected to play until the second week of the preseason.
The second-year back seems to have a roster spot locked up after a strong camp, but Detroit is likely taking it easy on him as he rehabs his torn ACL.
  • DET Running Back
Lions re-signed RB Aveion Cason and waived WR Brandon Middleton.
Cason’s returns is likely a clear indication that T.J. Duckett (ankle) will sit out versus the Vikings. Middleton had been on the roster as a sixth receiver. Look for Brian Calhoun to get extra work against Minnesota this week.
  • DET Running Back
Brian Calhoun says he’s “100 percent” recovered from a torn ACL.
Calhoun, who suffered the injury in practice last year, could struggle to make the club if Kevin Jones doesn’t go on PUP. His skills seem perfect for Mike Martz’s offense, but he’ll likely need to carve out a role on special teams.
  • CHI Running Back
Lions RB Kevin Jones will start the season on the PUP list, according to MLive.com.
The Lions aren’t commenting on the situation yet. The Lions have a bye in Week 6, so Jones has a chance to miss only five games. According to doctors, the foot is almost totally recovered, but the team wants to play it safe. Tatum Bell will have solid RB3 fantasy value until Jones’ return, but T.J. Duckett could vulture touchdowns.
  • DET Running Back
Brian Calhoun rushed eight times for 25 yards and caught a nine-yard pass as the Lions fell to Buffalo 16-13 in Thursday’s preseason finale.
The potential third-down back while Kevin Jones is out showed quickness but didn’t break a long gain. He’s likely to make the team over Aveion Cason.
  • CHI Running Back
Lions coach Rod Marinelli acknowledged Friday that Kevin Jones (foot) and Brian Calhoun (torn ACL) are candidates to begin training camp on PUP.
Most indications have seemed positive regarding Jones’ rehab so far, but the Lions have stacked their running back situation and not tried to push him early on. Tatum Bell would be next in line to start.
