Texans coach Gary Kubiak called Ryan Moats and Chris Brown his “2a and 2b” tailbacks behind starter Steve Slaton.
Moats has an edge because he played last year and Brown didn’t, but Brown fits the “big back” type Houston would prefer as a change of pace. “Brown’s obviously something that we’re looking for in our offense, but we’re going to play the best guys,” Kubiak said. “I don’t care if they’re small or big.”

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that fifth-round TE/FB James Casey will receive some goal-line carries in preseason action.
The Texans’ goal-line duties are wide open right now. “Steve [Slaton] has to get much better in that area and we’ve got some guys that can push him,” said Kubiak. Chris Brown and Arian Foster are also in the mix, with Brown entering camp as the favorite.
  • MIA Running Back
    Dolphins waived FB Chris Brown.
The Fins were trying to convert Brown from a college tight end into an NFL lead blocker. They picked up undrafted free agent FB Matt Quinlan instead.
