A report on Wednesday indicated that there’s a realistic chance of quarterback Lamar Jackson playing against the Browns on Sunday, but there was no change to his status when the Ravens took the practice field later in the day.
Jackson missed practice all of last week due to an ankle injury and he remained off the field during the team’s first practice of Week 6. Head coach Jesse Minter didn’t make any guesses about when he will be back, but said that the quarterback is doing what’s needed to return to action.
“I think it’s definitely day-to-day,” Minter said. “I think a lot of times those things, right when they happen, you’re not sure. You gather information, you look at stuff. To Lamar’s credit, he’s working his butt off. He’s doing everything he can to be out here. When he’s able to be, he will.”
Tyler Huntley started in place of Jackson last Sunday and helped the Ravens to an overtime win over the Falcons. Rookie Joe Fagnano is the team’s third quarterback.
Browns defensive end Jared Verse was not flagged for a hit on Sunday in which he lowered the top of his helmet into the side of Jets quarterback Geno Smith’s helmet. The Jets were not happy about it.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn was seen yelling at the officials about it during the game, and afterward Smith posted on social media to try to get the NFL’s attention about it.
A post on Smith’s Instagram stories simply included a photo of Verse’s helmet smashing into Smith’s face, and was tagged @NFL so that the league would see it.
The officials on the field didn’t see it, but the league office surely did. It would be shocking if Verse isn’t fined.
Browns receiver KC Concepcion will practice on Wednesday after suffering a concussion during Sunday’s loss to the Jets.
Concepcion was hit hard by New York safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, staying down for a while before eventually standing up and heading to the locker room under his own power.
The No. 24 overall pick of this year’s draft, Concepcion has caught 18 passes for 149 yards so far this season. He’s also returned four punts.
While it’s unclear if Concepcion will clear concussion protocol in time to play on Sunday, head coach Todd Monken told reporters in his Wednesday press conference that the team isn’t ruling anyone out for this week at this point.
Notably, running back Dylan Sampson will return to practice on Wednesday, opening up his 21-day window as he returns from injured reserve.
But several Browns are not slated to practice, including running back Quinshon Judkins (ankle), linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle), and defensive tackle Mason Graham (knee/ankle).
Cleveland’s full Wednesday injury report will be released later in the day.
Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders has hired an agent, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Sanders has signed with Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, to represent him. Sanders previously did not have an agent, going through the NFL Draft and the first part of his career self-represented.
Sanders’ former Colorado teammate, Jacksonville’s Travis Hunter, also signed with the same agency.
This change for Sanders calls to mind now-Texans receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who also had been self-represented until recently. Harrison hiring an agent helped facilitate a trade from Arizona to Houston.
While the Browns have not shown an interest in moving Sanders — with recent reports noting the team would like to keep and continue developing him — Sanders hiring an agent now could streamline the process for any potential transaction down the line.
On Monday, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter told reporters that quarterback Lamar Jackson was “definitely doing better” after missing Week 5 with an ankle injury.
Now there’s an indication he may be back after being sidelined for just one game.
Jackson has a “realistic chance” to play against the Browns on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jackson did not practice last week, but Minter has praised the quarterback for doing everything he can to get back as quickly as possible.
In four games so far this season, Jackson has completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 967 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. He’s also rushed for 144 yards with a TD.
Jackson did not practice last week. The Ravens’ first injury report of Week 6 is due out later on Wednesday.
