Rams signed fifth-round DL Clifton Ryan to a three-year contract.
The former Michigan State Spartan was a pass rushing tackle-end hybrid in college but will convert to nose guard in the pros. Ryan doesn’t have the body type or background for the switch, but seems to have taken to his new role.

The Rams have replaced SLB Quinton Culberson with Chris Draft, DT La’Roi Glover with Clifton Ryan, and DE James Hall with Victor Adeyanju in the starting lineup.
They’re probably still going to lose against the Bills on Sunday, but coach Scott Linehan is pulling out all the stops in his bid to save his job.

The Rams have extended restricted free agent NT Clifton Ryan a second-round tender.
Ryan isn’t an ideal fit for Steve Spagnuolo’s pressure-first scheme because he doesn’t push the pocket, but remains perhaps St. Louis’ best lineman against the run. Ideally, Ryan’s snap count will be way down going forward.

Rams re-signed restricted free agent NT Clifton Ryan to a one-year, $1.684 million contract.
Though not a true difference maker, Ryan is the Rams’ top run defender and made a career-high 42 tackles as mostly an early-down plugger in 2009. St. Louis remains desperate to upgrade at the “three-technique” tackle spot next to him, where the team played musical chairs throughout last year.

Rams selected Michigan State DT Clifton Ryan with the No. 154 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Ryan (6-3/310) was a penetrating type at Michigan State who will play the nose in St. Louis’ 4-3, although he dabbled at end as a Spartan. The Rams have discussed using more 3-4 alignments in the recent past and added two versatile DLs in Ryan and No. 13 pick Adam Carriker.

Rams placed DT Clifton Ryan on injured reserve with recurring migraines, ending his season.
Ryan, 26, had a disappointing contract year. He lost his starting job to Gary Gibson early on, ultimately appearing in one game after starting all 16 in 2009. Ryan should at least be easy for St. Louis to re-sign in the offseason.

Rams CB Kevin Dockery (hamstring) and DT Clifton Ryan (migraines) did not make the trip with the team to Oakland.
Recently signed Marquis Johnson will be used as the team’s fourth cornerback if Justin King (hamstring) does not play.
