We’d imagine the 33-year old will accept less money and a reduced role to stay in Big D.

He’ll probably return as a passing down specialist if Dallas moves to the 3-4, as expected.

He should start at weakside linebacker and could see his tackles total climb again. Look for the Rams to (over)spend more to shore up their defense in the coming days. They have some cap room to play with and lots of holes.

Brandon Chillar is the projected SAM and Will Witherspoon will play the middle. If the alignment sticks, only Witherspoon and Tinoisamoa will likely be IDP factors.

The former Cowboy didn’t play well before suffering a season-ending broken leg and ankle. Both he and Chris Claiborne were signed last offseason in a pair of moves that look very bad now.

Coakley, who signed a five-year, $14.5 million contract prior to last season, is overpaid considering his hapless play and durability. But the Rams have little proven linebacker depth and Coakley could serve as a situational nickel ‘backer.

Speculation in Cowboys camp was that Coakley could be replaced by Bradie James. James will come off the bench, but play quite a bit.

The three-time Pro Bowler ranks fourth in Cowboys history with 1,046 tackles and will likely be picked up by another team after failing to get his contract reworked by Dallas.

The smallish, speed ‘backer was limited last season with ankle and leg injuries. He’s said to be healthy now, but the Rams are set on the weak side with Pisa Tinoisamoa and in the middle now, with Will Witherspoon.

Coakley, 34, regressed into a special teamer and backup during his stay in St. Louis. The ten-year veteran should strongly consider retirement.
