A shocker after they took two first-day tight ends in 2006. But coach Scott Linehan knows McMike from Miami in 2005, when he caught 60 passes and McMichael is still young at 27. McMichael should start and be his usual steady self in fantasy leagues, so this crushes Joe Klopfenstein’s keeper value and makes Dominique Byrd’s release quite possible.

The rookie from USC hasn’t impressed in camp. Rookie Joe Klopfenstein and Aaron Walker started the game in a two tight end set.

After falling to third on the depth chart in camp, Byrd may not be in the team’s plans for 2006. Fitz will be the team’s third QB.

Byrd actually managed to make seven catches for 85 yards and a touchdown during the preseason, but wasn’t going to see a meaningful amount of snaps behind Zach Miller and Anthony McCoy. He’s appeared in just one game since the end of the 2007 season.

It’s a bad sign for Byrd that he can’t stick on a team that is without their top two tight ends in Fred Davis (suspension) and Chris Cooley (knee). He lost his job to practice squad type Rob Myers.

Byrd was fourth on the depth chart at tight end. His release is perhaps a sign that TE/FB Mike Sellers is over the worst of his back injury.

Byrd takes the roster spot of Fred Davis, who is suspended for the rest of the season. He’ll provide depth behind Logan Paulsen and Mike Sellers.

Byrd could face a suspension if found guilty. He got in trouble with the law as a rookie as well after allegedly breaking a bottle over a man’s face.

Not a good sign for Dominique Byrd, although Conwell probably doesn’t have much left. He’s still recovering from knee surgery and isn’t ready to play.
