The move comes a few days after the Cardinals placed Davis on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said the team could re-sign Davis later this season.

The former Birmingham Stallion totaled eight pass breakups, one interception and 34 tackles last year. He is the brother of veteran NFL CB Stephon Gilmore, who currently remains a free agent. The Cardinals correspondingly placed CB Starling Thomas V (knee) and CB Jaden Davis (knee) on injured reserve.

Davis (5'10/187) spent almost half a decade at Oklahoma before transferring to Miami for 2023. He somehow intercepted only one pass in 52 college contests, but made some big plays for the Hurricanes in 2023. He timed a decent-enough 4.47 at his Pro Day. Davis seems like someone drafted for his experience who can start out on special teams with an eye toward earning an eventual reserve role on defense.
