Chiefs coach Andy Reid believes CB Keith Reaser suffered a torn Achilles’ during Monday’s practice.
Reaser went down during 11-on-11 drills and had to be carted off the field. The diagnosis is not confirmed, but it looks like Reaser will miss the entire season. It is a tough blow for a player who earned his chance with a solid showing in the AAF.
  • Defensive Back
    Chiefs signed CB Keith Reaser.
Reaser is the first AAF castoff to land back in the NFL. He showed well with the de facto champion Orlando Apollos. Pro Football Focus charted him as the league’s best corner. A 2014 fifth-rounder, Reaser spent 2017 on the Chiefs’ practice squad before spending 2018 on injured reserve. He will still be a long shot to crack the 53-man roster, but his solid spring has reinvigorated his chances more than a typical offseason would have.
  • Defensive Back
49ers second-year CB Keith Reaser is a candidate for a starting role.
Reaser missed his entire rookie year to ACL surgery. With Shareece Wright and Jimmie Ward sidelined, Reaser got the majority of first-team OTA reps. Reaser will be in the mix to start opposite Tramaine Brock if he carries his strong offseason into training camp.
  • Defensive Back
49ers signed fifth-round CB Keith Reaser to a four-year contract.
Reaser tore his ACL as a senior and has experienced setbacks with the knee. He’s fully expected to “redshirt” as a rookie and spend the year on I.R. At 5-foot-9 3/4 and 189 pounds, Reaser’s future might be as a nickel corner.
  • Defensive Back
49ers selected FAU CB Keith Reaser with the No. 170 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Reaser (5-foot-9 3/4, 189) made 32 starts for the FAU Owls, recording seven tackles for loss and five interceptions. He tore his ACL six games into his senior season and underwent surgery. At the Combine in February, doctors discovered Reaser’s ACL was not healed, and he had another knee reconstruction soon thereafter, performed by Dr. James Andrews. Reaser wasn’t a dominant college player, and has huge medical concerns. He is another redshirt pick for the 49ers.
  • Defensive Back
Second-year CB Keith Reaser appears to have supplanted Shareece Wright as the 49ers’ starting left cornerback.
One of the worst cornerbacks in the league with San Diego, Wright was a perplexing signing by beleaguered GM Trent Baalke. Reaser is a 2014 fifth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic who spent his rookie season on injured reserve. With very little pass rush remaining following Aldon Smith’s release, a lot is going to be asked of San Francisco’s weak cornerback unit this season.
  • FA Defensive Back
49ers coach Jim Tomsula said Kenneth Acker and Keith Reaser will compete for the second starting cornerback position at practice this week.
Tramaine Brock is locked in as the No. 1. Acker and Reaser both lost their rookie seasons due to injury. Fourth and fifth options Dontae Johnson and Shareece Wright fill out the 49ers’ cornerback depth chart.
