Bears signed fifth-round LB Marcus Freeman to a four-year contract.
Freeman started all 26 games the past two seasons for Ohio State, racking up 9 1/2 tackles for loss in each season. He’s on the small side, but an above average athlete with excellent special teams skills. Freeman will compete with Jamar Williams to be Lance Briggs’ backup on the weak side.

Marcus Freeman, the Bears fifth-round pick in 2009, is done playing football because of a heart condition.
Colts doctors caught an enlarged heart valve in Freeman’s left ventricle and told him he’d never pass an NFL physical again. He’s now working as quality control assistant at his alma mater, Ohio State, while finishing up his degree.
